SW:EAW: Forces of Corruption - Bossk

Star Wars: Empire at War - Bossk / Hound's Tooth
This is a hint / walkthrough for a hero in Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. The index of all our guides for Empire at War: Forces of Corruption is here.

You get Bossk on Hypori in Mission 11 (Visions of the Past). He appears in space in his own large fighter, the Hound's Tooth. He is not available after Mission 15 (Baiting the Hook).
Overall he isn't a very useful combatant on land or in space compared to his ability to Neutralize Heroes on the Galactic Map.

On Land
Bossk has two powers -- A flamethrower and Plasma Grenades. Both have a slow recharge, so switch out the Plasma Grenade when he's thrown one.

The Plasma Grenade covers a moderate area with a continuously burning plasma that will kill infantry quite quickly and harm anything in or passing through. The range is fairly short, the recharge time long, and it does not ignore shields.
Because it sets up a kill-zone, it is useful to hit a unit at an area being defended, as the defending units will usually give up a chase and return to their positions.

Bossk can only shoot flying vehicles with his blaster on regular fire. If you have him switched over to the Plasma Grenade, or if you target a flying vehicle with his flamethrower, he runs in circles beneath the targeted vehicle.

In Space
Into the middle part of the Campaign, Bossk will be your only hero with any kind of useful space presence. The in-game hints say that having a hero boosts morale and helps your fleet fight better, so if that is all you need, any hero that will sit in a Frigate will do (e.g., Tyber Zann or Urai Fen).

The Hound's Tooth is actually pretty good against fighter wings because it has missiles that track the target. You can use him as a corvette but he still won't last long in a thick firefight. Theoretically the Sensor Jamming ability should make him hardy against Broadside Cruisers and Marauder Cruisers, although it is hard to say how useful the ability actually is.
